Dye Camp Retreat - May 31 - June 2 2026
May 31, 12:00 PM – June 2, 2026, 12:00 PM
Mitchell Wool Co. Farm, 4068 Hough Rd, Dryden, MI 48428, USA
Can you believe it?
3rd year of doing a Dye Retreat.
What Color would you like to knit or crochet with that would be your very own creation? We will start with our five core colors. Barn, Dandelion, Piglet, Tractor and Midnight, you get to choose which color combination, all the same or maybe two of each. Whatever your creative heart would like.
When Sherry asked me if I wanted to learn how to dye wool yarn, I never in a million years thought I would be having a team working along side of me and also teaching others from all over. The Dye Workshop has become a highlight of our year. It is such a privilege to share what we have learned along the way.
We will start right in after we have a delicious home cooked dinner with learning to Mordant your Fiber. Choosing your colors then on to the basics of mordanting and why it is so important.
Starting the next morning after a relaxing evening at your Barndominium, we will have breakfast at the shop followed by getting your yarn into your chosen colors. Each one will have a job to do in measuring, mixing and preparing the Dye pots. Please bring clothes that you don’t care if you get dye spatters on. We will provide you with your very own apron, but it is inevitable that dye will splash where the apron is not.
After a full day of dyeing, farm touring and of course shopping in our store we will head to our local historical restaurant, the White Horse for a delicious meal. You will get to sit by the fire at your Barndo after to knit or crochet.
The last day is a quick one, rinsing yarn, shopping and enjoying the last bits of Farm Life before heading home. Looking forward to seeing you all.
