“Despair is a tool of our enemies.” Audre Lorde (1934–1992) was a poet, writer, philosopher, and intersectional feminist whose words continue to challenge and inspire movements for justice. Through her poetry and essays, she confronted racism, sexism, homophobia, and all forms of oppression with honesty and clarity. As a professor and activist, Lorde believed deeply that “there is no hierarchy of oppression.” Her influential works, including From a Land Where Other People Live (1974), The Black Unicorn (1978), and Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches (1984), broke silences and continue to redefine the politics of identity, power, and resistance.
